Summary:

The Senior Automation Engineer is pivotal in leading line improvements, line automation, and realigning product flow equipment and machinery in collaboration with the Engineering and Maintenance departments. This position is responsible for providing technical guidance and contributing to training Machine Operators, Maintenance personnel, and Engineering staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and direct continuous improvement activities.
  • Conduct research on the feasibility, design, operation, and performance of mechanisms, components, and systems.
  • Plan and manage projects, preparing material, cost, and timing estimates, reports, and design specifications for machinery and systems.
  • Analyze machines and supervise the facility’s installation, modification, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
  • Investigate mechanical failures and unexpected maintenance problems.
  • Implement and design PLC, Ultraware, Panel Builder, and Profile Buss programs.
  • Track data for performance and maintenance parameters using maintenance tracking programs.
  • Determine materials and equipment for projects, ensuring compliance with appropriate codes.
  • Perform machine installations as needed.

Experience needed:

  • Hands-on experience in working and teaching others.
  • Ability to wire up panels and designs for AutoCAD and implementation of robotic cells and automation systems.
  • Experience in CNC integration experience in the automotive industry.

Credentials:

  • Post-Secondary Education in Electrical or Mechanical Technology.
  • Minimum seven years of experience in PLC and robotic repair/programming.
  • Trade license in Industrial Electrical Maintenance (442A).
  • Electronics Technician/Technologist Certificate, Electrician Qualification, or equivalent.
  • Certificate of Qualification or Certificate in a related field or equivalent working experience.
  • Courses supplied by machine manufacturers.
  • Understanding electrical/electronic schematic diagrams, blueprints, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
  • Basic computer networking, Ethernet connections, and TCP/IP protocol knowledge.
  • Knowledge of advanced PLC programming, including Allen Bradley, ControlLogix/RS Logix, Siemens S7, and Fanuc.
  • Knowledge of robot systems (ABB, Motoman).
  • Experience with computer-assisted design, manufacturing, and machining.
