In this newly created position, we are looking for a candidate who is eager to be at the forefront of new technology.  The candidate should have a deep understanding of PLC code development and machine communications protocols, along with significant experience in fast-paced manufacturing/ production environments, so ad to effectively contribute to the development of our growing IoT platform.  This role may require up to 10% international travel.

Key Accountabilities

IoT Platform Development

LMMS Development

  • Responsible for PLC program development for the specific modules within the IoT platform under the direction of the Systems Architect and PLC Controls Leader.
  • Work directly with machine and automation builders for IoT Platform Compliance during machine builds and support of IP changes and signal extraction as applicable
  • Closely follow programing standards and direction and contribute in standards development
  • Document changes made and best practices on machine connection and signal extraction

System Support

  • Connect to machines with various control system to update IP addresses and to extract the required data signals to Allen Bradley data concentrator using AB native protocols or implementing KEPWARE communications across various platforms
  • Hands on interaction with a large variety of control systems to understand processes and extract the required SCADA data Signals for monitoring within an MES / IoT system
  • Troubleshoot machine communications to support data transfers to control systems
  • Engage in continuous learning by attending formal professional development seminars and conferences as needed. Conduct self-directed studies by reading journals and trade publications.  Must be aware of new technologies and advances in controls and automation field

Skills, Experience, Attributes

The Ideal Candidate will have understanding and experience in working with the following technologies that are the backbone of the IoT Platform


  • Expert level knowledge in Allen Bradley PLC program development to contribute to other expert-level developers
    • Allen Bradley Studio 5000
    • Allen Bradley Factory Talk Transaction Manager (FTTM)
  • Good working knowledge of Kepware Manufacturing Suite, XML, JSON
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of SQL 2016


  • Knowledge / experience in programming Siemens PLC / Step 7/TIA portal
    • Additional knowledge of Fanuc controls would be a definite asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of factory-floor data networking and machine communications (Ethernet, TCP/IP, OPC)
  • Experience and knowledge on data, data structure, database and data manipulation
  • Trade license in Industrial Electrical Maintenance (442A) an asset
  • Direct experience of shop-floor automation building & support in a high production environment is beneficial
