Job Summary:
The Plant Controller plays a vital role in managing the financial operations and providing strategic financial guidance for the plant’s operations. Their role is to ensure the financial health and success of the plant. They provide financial leadership, analysis, and strategic guidance to support operational excellence, cost efficiency, and sustainable growth.
Job Responsibilities:
- Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A): Develop and oversee the plant’s annual budgeting and forecasting processes. Analyze financial performance against budget and forecast, identifying variances, and providing insights to management. Prepare financial reports and presentations for plant management and corporate headquarters.
- Cost Accounting: Monitor and analyze manufacturing costs, including direct materials, labor, and overhead. Implement and maintain cost accounting systems and processes to accurately track and report manufacturing costs. Provide cost analysis and recommendations to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
- Inventory Management: Oversee inventory control processes to ensure accuracy and minimize excess inventory. Analyze inventory levels, turnover rates, and obsolescence to optimize inventory management practices. Collaborate with production and supply chain teams to develop inventory strategies that balance cost savings with production requirements.
- Financial Reporting: Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies and reporting requirements. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or other applicable accounting standards. Coordinate with corporate finance and internal audit teams for financial audits and reviews.
- Internal Controls and Compliance: Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures. Conduct regular internal audits to assess control effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. Implement corrective actions to address control deficiencies and mitigate financial risks.
- Capital Expenditure Management: Evaluate and prioritize capital expenditure projects based on return on investment (ROI) and strategic priorities. Develop business cases and financial analysis to support capital investment decisions. Monitor and track capital spending against budget and forecast, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Financial Strategy and Decision Support: Partner with plant management to develop and implement financial strategies aligned with business objectives. Provide financial analysis and decision support for strategic initiatives, such as expansion projects, product launches, and cost reduction initiatives. Evaluate business performance and identify opportunities for revenue growth and cost savings.
Job Qualifications:
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is required. Require a professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Technical Experience: 3-5 years in a relevant technical field, with progressive experience in accounting, finance, or related roles, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Leadership Experience: 1-2 years in a supervisory or team lead role. Prior experience in a controller or similar financial leadership role is beneficial.
- ERP Systems: Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics, used for financial transactions, reporting, and analysis.
