AWS/CES is looking for a Metallurgical / Welding Engineer
Temp-to-Hire | Day Shift
Location: Louisville, KY
Pay Rate: $25.35 – $31.35 per hour
We are seeking a skilled Metallurgical / Welding Engineer for a temp-to-hire, day shift opportunity within an automotive manufacturing environment. This role will manage and support validation testing and welding processes while partnering with cross-functional teams to support production, launches, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

Manage and support all validation testing for GMAW, magnetic arc, and friction welding processes

Develop, validate, and manage welding process parameters and controls

Provide technical support to welding operations, metallurgical process controls, and laboratory operations

Review weld metallurgical testing records and trend weld data

Develop and maintain weld evaluation documentation and technical reports

Support new product launches to ensure compliance with customer, engineering, and quality requirements

Recommend engineering and manufacturing changes using metallurgical expertise to meet design and cost objectives

Manage continuous improvement projects focused on safety, quality, productivity, downtime reduction, and scrap reduction

Implement engineering changes on time and support launch activities

Collaborate with engineering, operations, quality, leadership, and union representatives to resolve operational issues

Interface with customer engineering and Supplier Quality representatives

Support End-of-Line (EOL) and Diamond Board activities

Adhere to all Quality, Safety, Environmental, and operating standards

Perform other duties as assigned by management
Required Skills & Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or a minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in an automotive manufacturing environment

Strong knowledge of metallurgy and welding processes

Experience with quality tools and methodologies, including:
-
APQP, SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP
-
TS-16949 / IATF standards
-
8D, 5 Why, and root cause analysis

Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack analysis, gage design, and Gage R&R
-
Familiarity with PLM databases and automotive customer portals (e.g., Covisint)

Strong understanding of plant manufacturing processes

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work extended hours as needed
