Sr Manufacturing Engineer

AWS/CES is looking for a Sr Manufacturing Engineer for our automotive manufacturing client

  • Location: Lansing, MI
  • Pay rate: $97,500 salary base + Benefits
  • Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Process Development

  • Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve productivity, quality, safety, and cost.
  • Support new product launches from prototype through full production.
  • Design and implement manufacturing work instructions, process documentation, and standardized operating procedures.
  • Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, tooling, fixtures, and equipment.

Process Improvement

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Analyze production data to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, minimize scrap, and increase overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions to improve manufacturing performance.

Equipment & Automation

  • Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Controls, and Production teams to troubleshoot equipment and improve process reliability.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and process enhancements to support production goals.

New Program Launches

  • Participate in APQP activities and support successful product launches.
  • Develop process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Coordinate equipment trials, process validation, and production readiness activities.
  • Support PPAP submissions and customer launch requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, and Engineering teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Support engineering changes and continuous process optimization.
  • Assist with capital equipment planning and implementation.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and production personnel.

Quality & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO standards, customer specifications, and company quality requirements.
  • Promote a safe work environment while supporting environmental and safety initiatives.
  • Participate in audits and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience within an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing operations.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aluminum die casting, lightweight metals, or Tier 1 automotive manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of robotics, automation systems, PLC-controlled equipment, and industrial manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing data analysis tools.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus.
