Journeyman Technician

AWS/CES is looking for a Journeyman Technician for our automotive manufacturing client

  • Location: Lansing, MI
  • Pay rate: up to $37.24 per hour + Benefits
  • Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair production equipment to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic repairs on manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot motors, drives, gearboxes, pumps, valves, conveyors, and automated production systems.
  • Repair and replace machine components while ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently.

Electrical & Automation

  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and electrical control systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Diagnose electrical circuits, sensors, relays, VFDs, and control devices.
  • Support robotic and automated manufacturing equipment as needed.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
  • Complete scheduled PMs and document maintenance activities using the CMMS system.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Participate in equipment installations, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.

Safety & Quality

  • Follow all OSHA, company safety, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Ensure repairs meet company quality standards and support uninterrupted production.
  • Promote safe work practices while working collaboratively with production and engineering teams.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Maintenance Supervisors, Engineers, and Production personnel to resolve equipment issues.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring equipment failures.
  • Support new equipment commissioning and process improvements.

Qualifications

Required

  • Journeyman Certification (Electrical, Industrial Mechanic/Millwright, or equivalent skilled trade).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of maintenance experience in an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in:
    • Mechanical systems
    • Electrical systems
    • Hydraulic systems
    • Pneumatic systems
    • Automated production equipment
  • Experience reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation.
  • Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with aluminum die casting, automotive manufacturing, or Tier 1 suppliers.
  • Experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Fanuc automation systems.
  • Familiarity with robotics, conveyors, servo systems, and industrial controls.
  • Experience using CMMS or maintenance management software.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is considered an asset.
